Fleet ack
« on: April 06, 2014, 02:18:38 PM »
There are a lot of really good 5' gunners in AH, me not being one of em. These guns are WAY too accurate to allow for torpedo runs. I recall Hetzer shooting down ALL of my TU-2s in two shots yesterday and the repeating this with the other set of bombers flying with me. My suggestion is to replace the radar air burst fuse with the magnetic fuse used for most of the war buy the US, requiring closer shots to cause an air burst.

Can't really agree.  Carriers being used means fights.  Sunken carriers don't create fights.

EDIT:

It would be a nice toggle to have for earlier settings, just not for the LWMA.

Would agree with that but I've seen plenty of fights ruined by people hideing in their manned ack.

My CV wish is to have AI Puffy ack start at 5 or 6K instead of 3K. Defending a base from a cv is nearly impossible when you can't even get some decent altitude. All the CV planes have to do is sit at 5-7K and let the AI Puffy ack insta-kill you second you pop over 3K.

You can always talk 6-12 guys into upping a torp plane with you. Everyone fly out of sight from the CV across a 180 degree or 270 degree area. At a predetermined signal, everyone turn into the CV at wave top level. The 5 inch gunners will miss at least one of you if they are average players. Had this pulled on a CV I was gunning for by popup fling bomber formations. 5 of them. Everyone was so busy on the first 4, the 5th simply appeared out of nowhere, flung it's bomb load and the CV was toast.

Most players don't want to be the 4 who get nailed, and why you don't see squad sized torp attacks of this nature very often. But, in ww2, was that not how torp attacks really happened with the expectation of loosing men to sink the target?

CVs covering target bases with their auto-ack IS an issue, though. Hopefully once the new water goes into place the closest approach for the fleets will get extended further out to prevent that.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

I totally agree :aok
Would be great if it also couldn't get somebody over their own airfield… :noid

Driving a CV onto the beach is frankly ridiculous, along with the guys doing precisely what Latrobe says, every time a coastal base is attacked, surely to be followed by cries to up from more distant base if you don't enjoy getting vulched by planes, ship ack etc etc :old:

I've been murdered plenty of times by the 5'' ack, even all bombers in a single shot. If we softened it, it'd be too easy to sink a CV, and we all know CV groups mostly lead to a steamy hot furball  :x.

Yes, the 5'' ack is absolutely murderous, but then again you can sink a CV with a single pass in most bombers. And now that we have the tutu with the 3 badabooms...

Torpedo runs are, and will always be, suicidal. Unless you get 6-12 guys to horde the CV group like bustr suggested. It'd also be a nice addition to have drones fly lower over the waves. What's their minimum alt now, 100ft? That's no use! :old:
Started from the bottom...still at the bottom.
