My tip is don't be what you're not.
If you are a big bloke naturally, lift weights and do some endurance marching (basically marching pace on a treadmill, and just go for an hour)
If you are a skinny bloke. LIFT WEIGHTS and don't do any tread. It'l burn the calories you need to build muscle.
Building muscle burns the most energy. It doesn't make you thin, but it burns more stationary. So if you work hard at muscles, kill them basically, and then do medium intensity cardio. And just do that while resisting the urge to eat (my biggest problem). You're good.
And if you are a medium bloke. Cardio Cardio and MORE CARDIO.
I normally train for a couple of hours, 4-5 times weekly, usually alternating cardio and weights. I intended the post as a bit of a joke, if you're training and it's not making you short of breath it's utterly pointless.
I usually run for 45 mins to an hour, maintain a heart rate around the 170 mark for that period, on weights days I lift around 10000-12000 kg in various supersets followed by lighter high rep supersets to failure.
I use protein and creatine, and N-O on weight days.
Problem I have is I get really motivated, end up in pretty good shape and then injure myself, usually by connecting a motorcycle with the side of a car owned by some myopic old fruit
