Saitek X-52 Joystick
« on: May 02, 2015, 09:02:31 AM »
Hello Skuzzy,

I have an X52 stick that has in the last two days lost the use of two buttons. No changes were made to drivers or machine. Machine is a new rig running vista 64 bit home premium 4 weeks old. Buttons work on windows side but not in aces.  Any ideas  Ty in advance

If they work in the windows device manager then its going to be either a button being programmed in the game for 2 things, or a corrupt file.

There were no two buttons mapped for same action.
Resolved issue by removing device. Restarting.
Removed game. Restarted.
Reinstalled game. Reinstalled device.

My Rig is new 4 weeks old nothing on it but aces high at the moment. Still puzzled at what caused the stick to suddenly not work.
Works now but a major pain to have to remap did not want to reuse saved mapping in case of corruption as mentioned in post.
Thank you for your response Fugitive

Vista... Err... Is known to be a less stable base for gaming.

Hopefully you've installed all of the necessary motherboard drivers instead of using the generic ones coming with the operating system.

I have to open game controller
Click properties of joystick
In windows before I start game..
Leave it open on desktop
Then start game.
Then all buttons work

Vista is not going to be stable.  It is the nature of the beast.  The longer it is is installed, the more problems you will have.  On our Vista test box, I have to re-install the operating system, about once every six months to keep it somewhat stable.

If the box was used daily, it would probably need a re-install once every three or four months.

What are you using to map the buttons? The game or Saiteks SST, or whatever they call it now? Also are these one key maps or two key? Saiteks SST can be picky about mapping certain buttons or mapping two key commands. Thats why my profiles are all custom and why Ive had to use other then default keys. Try assigning another, unused key. Like prnt screen. or "End". See what happens then.

I had this exact problem with an MS-FF2 back in about 2002.  The only fix I found was to use the stick software to map the button that stopped working to the 'P' key....now I've got my wep button back.

(I'm a 10 year X-52 veteran):

I'd suggest you use the SST software and program each button in the profiler to do what you wish.

(Just have to remember to turn it back on anytime your system reboots).

...

Other common issue with X-52s is the umbilical cord between Throttle and Stick often become loose (bad design)  Morfiend taught me a simple trick to keep them seated -- ever so gently open up the outer ring a tiny bit [needle nose pliers make it easy]  ... once you put the connector back in, they stay there rock solid.
