Tried Out Picture Editing Today.

And came up with this. The only thing worth taking pictures of that I have right now are my basses. Maybe the cat too.

Let me know what you all think and suggest some possible improvements.

Septia is nice.

There are literally hundreds if not thousands of possibilities.

Sharpening is a delicate tool. Used with caution it can really enhance details. You can see the difference in strings: On picture #1 the strings look a little soft but straight. On #2 and #3 they look like there were thinner and thicker sections, like a stretched pearl necklace.

Pay attention to the background, too. With basses it's quite easy since they don't run around. That corner with a slant roof may provide magnificent lighting possibilities, but then again you might want to play with the depth of field to highlight the object. Getting details to show on a black instrument with black knobs on a black stand casting a black shadow right behind it is very good practising material! Learn how to do it and you can then call yourself a master!

The original picture edits looked much better on my phone. I think that either photobucket or my computer dropped the quality a bit, which resulted in the difference with the strings.

Photobucket and other similar services may possibly reduce picture quality for less bandwidth, who knows? OTOH if you took the pics with your phone and haven't reduced the file size, they are of quite poor quality to start with. The original should usually be the largest but in your case the edited ones are four times the size of the original. Also 372px × 662px is a very small and inaccurate photo compared to the 4000 x 3000, 3 Mb pictures of my Canon PowerShot which still is only mediocre as a camera. You simply don't have much to work with.

If you can, add the image quality to the maximum. Work with the best quality original until you're happy with the result. You then can use some tool to shrink the photo for fast online viewing.

the internet demands your edited and unedited cat pictures.

This is huge with photoediting.  The bigger and better the original the better the end result will be.  I use my own site to host pics because photobucket etc.. 'aggravated' me :)

In regards to your work based on the tools you had to deal with I'm going to say 'nice work'
