Storm Timelapse Footage

I shot a couple of timelapses today as the storms kept building a couple counties east of me today. I used a new technique today though. Instead of just taking a video and speeding it up (huge files) I used my DSLR with a programmable remote trigger and had it snap a photo every ten seconds (much smaller files, still great quality).  Both of them can be viewed in full 1080HD.

That is pretty cool, I think I was under what you picturing, golf ball hail in my yard last night.

How do you do that picture every 10 seconds thing?  Is that programmable in your DSLR, or is it a separate accessory to the camera?  I've been wanting to try some time lapse too, but doing a video like you said creates a monster of a file.

Also, once you have all the frames compiled, are you using a software to combine them into a movie?

Pretty cool.  I have an app for my android phone call "Lapse It", but have yet to find a reason to try it.

With that I can set an interval and tell it how many pictures I want it to take and just hit a button and let it go. It can be set to take between 1-399 pictures or be set to infinity so it only stops when you hit the button again. Pretty neat for the price.

Once I have all the pictures, which the two videos you saw were comprised of about 140 in one and about 300 in the other, I resized them all with Adobe Photoshop and then put them into Adobe Premiere  and chose a length for each timelapse.


I had low expectations for it but came out surprisingly well for my first try I think. I still feel like I can sqeeze a little more detail out of the pictures if I run them through Adobe Lightroom next time.

btw, the best time lapses I've seen were uploaded on Vimeo, I believe they allow better quality than YouTube.
 I've seen some nice storm photos on Flickr taken Thursday evening N of Dallas; I was driving in the afternoon on SE side from I-35/635/20 to 35 but I rushed my truck to stay away, I was light and tornado watch was all the way down to Waco.
