The point is, has anyone seen any recently?

Some of you guys play other games. Ask around and see how many have heard of "Aces High".

A lot of people I play other games with have heard of Aces High. Some of them think the game looks too dated, others claim War Thunder is better for various reasons (Easier to learn, can fly with a mouse, no monthly fee, etc, etc.) I have never been able to convince anybody to try the game if they don't already own a joystick and none of those who have played through the two week trial have subscribed.

I think people get discouraged because of the steep learning curve.  I know when I started I played offline and got so I could kill all of the drones, then went online and got WHOOPED sitting there going How the (insert words here) did he do that???? :headscratch: :headscratch: :headscratch:  I have a friend that likes WT over AH because he couldnt get it in the 2 weeks he played.  I still think AH rocks  :rock

Some organizational changes might do the trick!

I think the dueling arena should have a name change to "Basic Game" then have several permanent and several roving mid air spawns. (you can still take off from an airport if you wish) Also have as a default setting an elimination of the stall, don't let the planes climb to infinity mind you, just make them hang on their props, stationary, like so much fruit until the pilot changes the direction. The basic game will give newbies a chance to learn flying skills which later he can learn how to land and what the stalls are about in the main arena. Many people just want a shoot em up game anyway, so AH could simplify a few more things. When an older player is in the now old dueling arena he can change things to get a real duel in a grudge match. Like changing the stall setting etc.

Next get rid of the early and mid war arenas, When one side or the other out numbers the others make them play first the mid war craft, then the early war craft before the map is won. Once one side has to play with early (or mid war) craft put perk points on all mid war and late war craft so that perk points mean something for a change. In other words once you have to play with a mid war fighter because you're wining, enable a late war craft for a minimal perk cost, otherwise, play as usual late war arena rules.

Also get rid of the training arena, no newbie wants to train, he wants to play! Keep the offline arena of course for flexibility but make it that everyone trains in the dueling arena. That way, a newbie can just switch fields (or spawn points) and he's off to try his new knowledge on another newbie.

How would this prepare them for the MA?

Will this not be simply forcing people to learn something twice?

Next get rid of the early and mid war arenas, When one side or the other out numbers the others make them play first the mid war craft, then the early war craft before the map is won. Doesn't ENY pretty much accomplish this already?

Keep the TA but actually make it into something that trains people, not just an empty arena with 2 new guys flying around in it complaining when they are shot at, because the arena message tells them to ask for permission.
Actually have a series of training manouvres that need to be completed prior to the player being entitled to fly in the Main Arenas :old:

This sounds like you want a completely different game which is completely tailored to people not having to put effort into learning it, I appreciate making things a bit easier to learn but at some point  you have to realize this is not an arcade flight game nor is it a WWII simulation. AH uses realistic Flight Models, it's not going to a "jump in and be successful" type game for new players. Also keep in mind that everyone in AH has been that new guy getting manhandled at some point, including the "rude" ones and the guy that just sent you to the tower.

I researched ww2 air combat simulator games and found aces high. I had just left a flight game called air attack which had a lot of the features Fork 2 talks about. It died. So when I found this game I fell in love because it is so hard and you actually have to learn stuff. The people are great and will help. I wanted the challenge of learning the hard way, letting the game come to me so to speak. I'm still learning and really love the challenge. I also have been a ww2 fighter plane nut 48 of my 56 years. AH rocks! Peace.

I had just built myself a computer and wanted to test it.  I had a think and finally decided to search for flight sims and found aces high.  It sounded like just the ticket.  First thing that impressed me was having to account for engine torque on take off.  No "open throttle and pull back on stick".  I taught myself to take off and land - once I had that down pat I wondered what the on-line game was like.  Two days later I bought a headset and mic!

I spun, stalled, died, died and died.  Then I met some guys, started getting kills, flew what I wanted to fly and had fun.  I'm seeing the addict counselling on a regular basis.   ;)
