One point I could easily make would be the fact that there have been no less than 30 threads all of which multiple pages long and with easily 90% backing in each othem about the 12 hour side switch rule, many of them asking repeatedly for HTC to at least comment.....

It was blantantly obvious what the community wanted, and that was at the very least was a moment of anyone of the HTC staff's time to let us know what was going on with this... Yet over the last year we've been virtually ignored.

That is just one reason that may have lead to the recent outcries from members of the community.

I've no complaint about HTC's controls regarding subscribers switching countries.  Neither have any of my squaddies complained, nor have I heard such on range.

I have no idea what you are talking about.

The major concern has been side switch times. If you look back you'll see that the first few requests for this change were polite and supported by a decent number of players, and those requests were ignored. Right or wrong this latest batch of unpleasantness is largely a product of feeling that you don't give a damn about us.

I'd say the same thing you did to balance the countries  during the about 5 years we had 1h rule in Late War and for the almost 8 years now in EW and MW.
