Hi, I'm going to get my car checked this weekend, but I figured I'd ask for some opinions anyways.

So I was driving down a road which I normally travel (at night) after some earlier road work, only to not see part of the road torn up... My front driver side wheel took all of the impact (30-40mph).

No popped tire, or cracked rim... but my power steering seems to be 30% less effective, does not return to center as easily as before, and there is a slight clunk when going over a manhole or what not. It does not do this when both sides take the impact, only when the left driver side wheel takes an impact.

The car already pulled to the right a bit before, but now it seems worse though that's the opposite side. There is no pull, stutter, or shaking in the wheel otherwise and I've checked fluids/leaks.

Find out who the company was that was doing the work and you can make them pay for it.

Sounds like it may have just been knocked out of alignment. Easy fix. When it's up on the alignment rack they should check the front suspension pieces anyway so you will know for sure.

sounds like youve knocked your alignment out and might have damaged the lower balljoint/wishbone which is giving the knocking sound imo

 Sway bar end link,tierod end,ball joint any of these could be the culprit!  As far as parts well I wouldnt worry too much as most the underpinnings on the avalon are the same as the camery.

I've found that mechanics who own race cars do the best front end work.

Inner tie rod ends can cause a clunk when thumped by a hard hit but it's likely that the strut top on that side has been "punched" from the strut bottoming out and now has play.

Have them do an alignment check........which most toyota dealerships do for free as long as you are also doing an oil change and tire rotation.

Mention what happened to them since you also could have a bent lower control arm or strut.

not sure on how the strut is setup on those, but my friends moms subaru hit a pothole and the strut has a bearing on the top side that blew apart and was making a clunk.
