Fun squad training exercise
« on: April 22, 2014, 06:10:36 PM »
This is a little fun game I made up last night for our usual Hog practice.  I couldn't get a custom arena up as status quo lately so I went into the TA.  A few squaddies showed up for practice and I thought I'd try something a bit different.  I came up with a good way to play "TAG" with aircraft and works great for many aspects of the game.  Especially reversals and lag persuit.

The rules of the game are fairly simple.  One person is "it" to start the game off.  The person who is it must announce it and hopefully also turn smoke on so it's obvious to all other players who is "it"

The object of the "it" player is to shoot a fellow player, in which case they become "it" and announce it and turn on their smoke.  Original "it" player turns off thier smoke.

All players must remain within 3k of the "it" player at all times.

Players that are not "it" job is to saddle up behind the "it" player if possible, as behind them is the safest place to be.

All players that are not "it" are not allowed to use their guns, only the "it" player may fire (otherwise it causes quite a bit of confusion)

If the "it" player crashes, they are still "it".  If a not "it" player crashes, they become "it"

If a player is 4k or more away from the "it" player they can be called "it" by the "it" player and become "it"

All players are fair game unless wheels are on the ground, eg. re-arming.  Once wheels leave the pavement they are again fair game.

Sneaking into and out of the re-arm pad becomes an art :D.

We did this last night and it was quite a bit of fun, with lots of rolling scissors practice as the group would try and saddle behind the guy who was "it" and he would try and force us out in fron for a shot.  Thought I would throw this out for any other squad that might want to give this a try

With this being an FSO off-week, will you run this again during our usual Thursday evening practice time?

If so, I'll be there.  Sounds fun.

For those of us playing this game for well over a decade, Aces High is more of a social club. The game just provides the framework. I keep logging in for the people and Pipz was the kind that you keep coming to meet again.

I can see it now. 'Hey, BigRat's smoke's on!'

BigRat: No it's not!

Everyone else: Yes it is!

I took part in this game in the TA last night. It was indeed quite a lot of fun! If you've been "it" for quite a while, you feel the pressure to finally get a reversal on somebody (especially when you're playing with your squadmates). This mimics the pressure of combat in FSO somewhat nicely, I think.

Quite a fun invention, BigRat. I look forward to playing more tag  :) :salute

Since I started this game Monday night and posted it on Tuesday, and that game is almost the complete opposite of mine (see rules above).  I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to get at.

my bad, just reread it. similar concept just in our game the "it" player was the prey. this will happen when you have a 10yo asking you a million questions while your reading the day's posts.  my apologies sir.
