Urban "Tile" or ground type
« on: April 29, 2014, 02:15:40 AM »
The current ground type system provides lots of different ground types, farm, water, grass, rock, forest and more, however one important type is missing - Urban area.

I clearly understand that it isn't "just texture". And it actually should be generated with objects like buildings streets and so on. Maybe it is possible to do them similarly as trees are created today - but to make sure it does not hit FPS too much - maybe switch to bump-mapped tile over some altitude/distance.

If it could be done the way it doesn't hit FPS too much it would be great - even if the buildings are undestructible.

This way we would be able to fly over London, Berlin, Moscow and other cities that would actually be large - and the terrain would look much more realistic.

Guessing you've never seen Easyscor's Paris using city blocks already available in the game...

I assume you are talking about 3d objects - they are problematic because:

1. Require manual placement - can't be auto-generated
2. Require huge resources tracking (think of 10,000-50,000 buildings in a city)

I'd like to see urban area like the AH forest.

I would like to see the first version of the new game released with us playing on it before we try to help Hitech turn it into WT or one of the FPS games. Or even can while keeping arenas with 600 players.

No one knows yet how the new version will work.

The disconnect, is many newer players think because the terrain will leverage Shader. And have seen the Hitech teasers teaching himself how to do the programming. That suddenly our arenas can be turned into a single warehouse room in the current FPS Batman game or IL2.

You guys need to save yourselves for all the whines about the new version you will be hitting these forums with at the end of day "One". Day "Two" you will have an idea if all of these eyecandy wishes are even possible before you need dentures and wear depends.

 :rofl :rofl :headscratch:

I don't understand where your expertise is coming from.

So how bad are your frame rates over the one hundred and fifty one square mile city around the Eiffel Tower? I think there are between twenty eight hundred to thirty two hundred destroyable objects in that city.

Larry just rolled out a stalingrad terrains with very large custom cities as well, and it's a winter terrain.

The point is that something like this is already happening and the new TEng will hopefully help with the drawing and make it that much better.
Easy in-game again.

And the knights capital will be a cardboard box with a cut out that says "change for food, god bless"
only a moron would use Dolby positioning in a game.
