My Dad worked for CAA in Juneau and Fairbanks 1957 to 1962 as a general aviation safety inspector and always had lots of stories about people operating commercially on a student permit. Some flying charters to lower 48 even.

I once signed a student off to solo a twin he owned.   He told me later he flew his mom and dad to Vegas in the thing.
