Solution for low pops -and- AI wishes ?
« on: May 06, 2014, 02:18:54 PM »
What about V1s ?

They existed, and were used during WWII : They would be used on the rear untakable bases only, launched from a -destructible- specific launch pad,
whose launch pad would be controled like a CV -which means 1 star at least players-... and only (or not) during low pop times.

I'm not sure about this.
Ok, there is limited location for which it can be used, but is there any idea as how to regulate the use of these things to prevent them from being overused and/or abused?
Also what about possible perk costs?

I remember in 2005 we had a discussion about having V-1's added as a "Weapon". Someone with so many perks could "buy" and fire a V-1 towards an enemy airfield.
The argument ended with me laughing about someone paying 250 perks to see a V-1 explode 2 sectors from its actual destination and rage quitting - after all the V-1's were not exactly accurate, let alone a small payload that would need a direct hit to actually do damage.

I would love to see V-1 bases added as "vehicle" bases, although its more of a static target for someone to bomb rather then anything useful.

1800lbs of Amatol I would say was a substantial payload :old:

Admittedly of little use in the MA setup

I'd rather see AI bomber formations attacking a single random airbase on each front line. Lets say 2-3 formations of medium bombers taking off from a rear base every 10-20 minutes (lower population countries get more frequent AI raids) and coming in at 10K or so. This would create the seed of a fight with interception and CAP of the base on one side and sweeps, escort and player-flown bombers joining the AI bomber formations for mutual defence on the other. The AI bombers would dump all their ord in one go on the town with enough accuracy to do damage but not enough to white flag it without player help, then they would RTB.

Yes, thats another solution, but we must consider players who absolutely dont want to see an AI controled plane, as it would ruin realism and,
obviously, it wouldnt be like fighting another human, which is why most of us are here...

My solution adds AI, but not at the cost of realism, as V1s werent controled by a pilot in cockpit...

Where would you aim it? They were desperately inaccurate

From Wiki "Approximately 10,000 were fired at England; 2,419 reached London, killing about 6,184 people and injuring 17,981.[16] The greatest density of hits were received by Croydon, on the south-east fringe of London. Antwerp, Belgium was hit by 2,448 V-1s from October 1944 to March 1945"

I would imagine ability to hit a town or field in AH would be speculative at best. and 2000lb is not going to do a huge amount of damage considering most use around 40000lbs of bombs from a Lanc formation to accomplish the same task :headscratch:
