198th ShAP Il-2
« on: May 04, 2014, 09:37:43 AM »
Thanks to Lyric1 for finding me the info on this skin, principally from this Soviet Warplanes BBS thread.

This is the aircraft of Aleksandr Nicolayevich Efimov of 198th ShAP in 1945. Efimov flew his first Il-2 sortie in the Autumn of 1942 and within six months had rose to the rank of squadron commander aged only 20. During the war he flew 222 sorties which resulted in the shared destruction of 5 aircraft in the air, 85 on the ground, 30 trains, 126 tanks as well as 193 artillery pieces and AA guns. He personally shot down two of the five aircraft, a 109 and a 190. At the end of the war the heavily decorated Efimov stayed in the VVS and flew a wide range of aircraft up until 1983.

This is a late model Il-2 with metal outer wing panels. The white tail surfaces were a temporary ID feature applied to all the group's aircraft and painted in what appears to be washable winter paint.

Very good!
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!
