SEC May 2014: 1948 War of Independance: Operation Yoav
« on: May 05, 2014, 11:37:36 AM »
Historical Background

On 29 November 1947, the General Assembly of United Nations Organization voted in favor of the Partition Plan for Palestine that ended the British mandate creating of two independent Arabic and Jewish states. Upon termination of the mandate on 15 May 1948, Egyptian and Jordanian armies, with a support of additional forces from Iraq and Syria invaded Palestine in order to destroy the newly created State of Israel and take control of its territories. In the beginning of the war, the young State of Israel struggled to stop the invasion forces. Royal Egyptian Air Force bombed Tel-Aviv, the Egyptian Expeditionary Force had advanced to as close to 35km (20miles) from Tel-Aviv. Several kibbutzim in Negev were under the siege. The Jerusalem – Tel-Aviv road was under the control of Transjordanian army. The situation was desperate.

The first truce between the Arab and Israeli forces was declared at 11 June and lasted for 28 days. It followed by 10 days of fierce battles that ended with the second truce lasting until 15 October.

The 2nd truce was used by Israel to reorganize IDF forces. A complex airlift, operation Avak, was lunched to supply the Negev with fresh forces and equipment. The war entered its 3rd phase.

The IDF offensive Operation Yoav started at 15 October 1948. Its goal was to drive a wedge between the Egyptian forces along the coast and the Beersheba–Hebron–Jerusalem road and ultimately to conquer the whole Negev. The offensive had started with IAF operation Egrof (punch) – air bombardment of major Egyptian forces concentrations at Gaza, Beit Jibrin,  Faluja, Beersheba and El-Arish. Every single aircraft capable of carrying bombs was used for the operation. This was followed by an IDF operation against Egyptian forces at Beit Jibrin that had fallen under the Israeli control which lead to "operation Moshe", known as the Battle of Beersheva.

The battle for separation corridor was held on the western part of Egyptian front. IDF managed to capture several controlling points at the near Ashekelon and disconnect Faluja from the rest of the Egyptian forces creating “The Faluja Pocket” and forcing the Egyptians to retreat to Gaza from Ashdod  and Ashkelon.

It is Sunday European Campaign... So it should be 3 frames this month i.e. 11th, 18th & 25th of May

Also we are looking for a COs for Egyptian and Israeli side who would be able to do his homework (i.e. get familiar with the rules) and lead the troops to the battle (i.e. organize the tactics).

This way the event much more organized and fun.

BTW the skins of that you'll see during this event: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,355982.0.html

109g6 was an excellent machine compared with the junkers engined 109.
it should fly with a non-droppable bomb underneath, or in worst case a drop tank that should stay on all the time.
My ammo last for 6 Lancasters, or one Yak3.

According to the writeup they are required to carry gun pods... as Avia's did - it significantly reduces the 109 performance. Also we don't have S-199, it is still the "best" matchup - in both historical point of view and the game balance.

Sunday European Campaigns run on the standard time for European time zone events. IIRC - 3pm Eastern, 8pm UK, 9pm Central European Time - but check with detch01 (asw) for exact time.

It is a walk-on event,  no registration or invitation needed - show up on time and have fun.

Quote from: http://www.ahevents.org/events/sec.html:

The Sunday European Campaign (SEC) event is run three Sundays a month designed to provide a regular event for AH players connecting from Europe. SEC are “walk-on” events so players do not have to register to attend and can show up and play at any time during the event (except where this is limited in the particular event description). T+0 in SEC’s is always at 15:00hr EST (3pm) on the day of the event and run for two hours.

I see the solution to the Mossie IV as Beaufighter replacement was to simply not do it.

Can't say I disagree with that.

The Mosquito isn't active in SEC, however it make take place in other events - the planeset considerations as show in appendix are general, not SEC specific.

For example IAF operated several P-51Ds during that period - however it is out of SEC due to balance issues.

Don't let Karnak rile you up. He is an instigator and doesn't even play anymore. Your setup seems very well planned within the constraints of the aircraft available and the event specific skins are a very nice feature too. Nice work, looking forward.

We have a volunteer for an IAF...

Now who whats to Fly like an Egyptian?

We are looking for Royal Egyptian Air Force CO...

Fly the Spitfires and Macchi 205 over Sinai dessert and Suez channel, search for the targets on Mediterranean Sea Coast, lead the Egyptian Expeditionary Forces?

I posted in support of their decision.  Try reading before you troll.

I do have an active account.
