I remember Kindergarten, and when several kids got together and were all saying the same thing, the teacher actually paid attention to it.  She may not have given us what we wanted, but she at least acknowledged that we were speaking pretty quickly, if for no other reason than to get us to shut up.

Stick a fork in this thread already.  As any teacher knows, if they haven't grasped the lesson yet, they need to ask a classmate or go to the library after class for tutoring.  Otherwise the consequence is slowing down the curriculum of an entire class of students for that one kid with velcro shoes.
