Timestamp option in chat
« on: May 16, 2014, 02:44:17 PM »
This has been wished for before. I'm rebooting it because I think it would easy to implement and very beneficial.

"I wish" that we had the ability to toggle an option for timestamps in chat. There are a lot of reasons the community might want this option, but specifically for me it's a tactical one. When on bombing runs, it'd be great to get a timestamp next to when a hangar was dropped. That way we don't have to resort to external means outside of the game to time it. While we have clocks in the aircraft, I would also ask to supplement the timestamp aid, that the arena time be added to the clipboard in a discrete area.

Thoughts?

The need for any use of external timers on objects has largely been rendered obsolete by querying the in game timers with the .dt command.

I would like to have the timestamp still  :old:

just thinking out loud but time stamp to see when the hangars were dropped depends on three big things.

1-the hangar is reported as being destroyed

2-you know exactly which hangar was destroyed.

3-the hangar dropped gets reported right away.

the reason is because other than the vh, there's about 4 or 5 different maps created by some squads that number each fh and bh differently. assuming you arent using the ah provided maps.

it sounds like a good idea but an even better idea would be to click on the maps themselves and when your mouse hovers over each hangar it will tell you how long till it comes up.  but I doubt that it's gonna happen.

if you really want realism and immersion then you write it down on a piece of paper and have a stop watch to use, it doesnt get any better than that.

There was a player named Pand, who took the time to make maps with all the hangars and other items numbered.  They had the same numbers used by the game system.  I am sure that someone here can point you to a place to download Pand maps version 3.

Using the .dt command, I can look at the map and tell which hangar is down, and for how long.  Some people think criticize this, but it helps when picking targets, and when deciding whether or not to run a box of supplies to a base or field.

Here is a link to download Pand's last updated maps as of 2013. The FB have a link to them on their site.

Goodness. I didn't know about the .dt command. Thanks for the education. I will certainly be using it! Anybody still in favor of timestamping chat?

Not opposed except for screen clutter and really I would say / .dt f025vhh is faster than scrolling back to something ten minutes ago especially with multiple hangars.

Isn't amazing how many little parts of the game are revealed over time. For instance it was years before I learned that a quick double tap of the U key would correct the altitude in the bombsite without messing with the calibration.
