Memorial Day B29 flight
« on: May 23, 2014, 05:17:56 PM »
On Memorial Day I am planing a cross-team B29 flight to honor those who have given their lives to protect the US and many other countries and their freedoms. If you are willing to take part in this flight, take up a B29, single B29 or a formation with a metallic skin or a P51D, with a metallic skin as well. For anyone wishing to join, the VOX will be 234 and we will meet up near the crater at 5PM EST, if we are still on craterMA. And for those who want to be A-holes and try and kill us, may the escorts and the guns of many B29s make your death swift!

I think it's best to do this somewhere other than the MA in order to avoid interference and disruption.

I agree, can you set something up in the TA for us?

What do you have in mind?  You can already just show up and fly.

I would prefer to do this in the MA, but if I must...

You can do it in the MA but you have to accept the potential problems.

I know there are problems involved, but I hope there will be enough escorts and gunners to f up any A-hole who wants to f with the formation.

Try to keep in mind that there is nothing wrong with attacking enemy aircraft in the MA.

I'll never understand how people think a cartoon airplane formation honors people that died in real wars.
If you want to honor them do something real in their honor. Like take gifts to a VA hospital or take
flags and place them on the graves of veterans. Or do something for your community in their honor.
Like organizing a park cleanup or cematary cleanup. Sitting on your arse playing the same game you
play day after day but saying your doing it for them on this one day seems a bit hollow and a cop out to me.

I believe it's the thought that counts. Taking the time to get together for the purpose of remembering and honoring the sacrifices made seems more important to me than the actual activity. That's why I wouldn't choose to risk disruptions to the event.

I think your ideas are good too.  :salute

We can do this in Da or the TA and have many more people involved, we can do a flyover of one of the bases with smoke on and a Wirble salute.

The thought, and the action.  That was Shifty's point.  Very easy to fly a memorial flight in AH.  More difficult to actually get off one's butt and do something.
