Thanks everybody for all your kind words and advice, not only in my name but also in the name of my wife... even though she is quite confused by all the strange names I mention to her ;)

I didn't mention it's a boy, called by the name of Alexander:

Congrats, L. I assume he'll be learning diff. eq. this fall.

If he's anything like his dad he will never solve them. Because I can't either. Contrary to the picture some seem to have about me, I actually suck in maths, always did. I can't even really solve ordinary quadratic equations... in school I almost had a solid "F" in maths.  :uhoh

But there's always hope... he could come after his mother, someone with a knack for math and more importantly a practical approach to life. Maybe he can learn from me that wasting your time and efforts on games doesn't get you far in life.  :old:
Not sure if the "don't do as dad does" style of education does work well, though...   :noid

Thanks again everybody!  :rock

Like th ename - both my nephews have it, though one as a "middle"... Anyway, yes, doing metrics and maths are two different things. As for the maths, its not all that relevant anyway, so long as you can think clearly.  The two often are confused by people.

BTW, Lusche, where are you at in ruhrgebiet? I'm often in NRW - at least lately.

I've got to say, I like Koln and Bonn, at least. My main problem is that I tend to gain weight there. It's got something to do with long work hours and good schnitzel and chocolate. It took a couple of weeks of working out to burn off that last trip.
