I'd like to see it added though I'm guessing the visibility is just slightly better than GIs cramming around that little round window in the back of a Sikorsky...no rear view, side view low obscured by those big engines hanging forward. Is the forward view about the same as a 109?

Bring on the Beau!

One note, with the Beau comes the absolute need of proper targets.

AH needs to finally launch a convoy system with a dozen or so Liberty ships and half a dozen destroyer escorts. Give the Beau a target!

3 squadrons were, 167, 263 and 25

122 were built which admittedly is low, but we do have the ar234 (200 odd) and the Ta152 (less than 50) and the Me163 (400)

And look at the number of missions flown by those 3 squadrons, the amount of shipping and ground targets destroyed, and their casualty rate..... They MORE than did their share.

I can only find info on two squadrons who used it operationally. 263 and 137. 25 squadron was switched over to Beaus for night fighting. I call the air frame "what if" not as a disrespect but more like "what if" they had ironed out the engine issues and stuck with the air plane? I think it would have been a fine raider with the added advantage of, correct me if Im wrong, being very maneuverable for a twin. I like the plane despite its troubled history.

You cant compare the P47M to the WW cause the 47M was a airframe made in the thousands with just some engine differences.

In the end hard choices had to be made and the RAF already had battle proven twins in the Beaufighter  and the Mossie. A lot of resources were needed for the Huge strategic Bomber force they were building. In the end the WW lost out.

While I'd love to see the WW In order of "1st wishes" I'd like to see the Beau 1st and the KI-45 2nd. I Love the twins, most of all the TU but I do love them all, "Mossie is special to me as well". ;)

The RAF was not interested in twin-engine fighters. They were quite happy with their single engine fighters and did not need another expensive fighter. They were completely uninterested in a day-fighter version of the mossie, even after the initial study by DH indicated it would be a beast - until the post war Hornet.

Inspite of being a good fighter and fighter-bomber, the WW did not offer anything really unique. Single crew ruled out many missions done by Beaus and Mossies, in particular night fighter and long range strike/intruder/photo-rec missions. Its range did not support such missions either. The Beau on the other hand did a long long list of missions - the ones that are NOT done by Spits. It had many unique niches until it was replaced by the mossie, but even then it kept a few roles to itself, especially in environments of extreme conditions (i.e. the far east). Serving from beginning to the end of WWII is an incredible feat. This is not like the Spits and 109, whose 1945 version has only exterior resemblance to their 1939 version. The Beau underwent improvements, but nothing that extreme, and still saw heavy use in 1945. ~6000 produced (vs. ~200 Whirlwinds) make it a very significant allied plane.

Since when did the Beaufighter attack liberty ships and allied shipping?  :noid

I was arguing in favour of the Whirlwind. Maybe I should have tried harder. I merely was attempting to demonstrate that we have myriad aircraft in the game that are less deserving of their place :old:

Proper target, as in a merchant ship, the Liberty Ship being by far the most common merchant ship on the face of the earth. If we add the Beau what are they going to currently do, shoot AI acks on a field?

Yes, bring on the convoy system!
