Icons grayed out
« on: June 11, 2014, 02:51:17 PM »
Hey everyone,

I'm having an issue where my icons are turning gray. This makes it difficult to distinguish enemies from friendlies, and it makes it almost impossible to read icons against the whitish horizon. Any suggestions? This problem has only recently started, and I've already tried turning down my graphics settings. Below is a DxDiag report. Thanks for your help!

Edit: Hmm, my DxDiag report doesn't seem to be attaching. Reply if you want me to message you a report, or if you have tips for getting it to show up. Thanks again!

Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family<------ this means it is an onboard Graphics card, they are NOT made for 3D gaming

         Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0102&SUBSYS_31941019&REV_09

Dedicated Memory: 64 MB<----- this is the dedicated ram for your "video" minimum for the game is at 256
Shared Memory: 1632 MB<---- while this looks like it boosts your video ram, all it's doing chewing through your system ram

It is most likely the same issue with the OP. You'll have to drop your texture size down to 256 and turn off most of the eye candy.

vonmessa, you have a very basic computer.  the hd while being 1tb is only 5400 rpm and the ps is 250.  the g640 was an entry level dual core sandy bridge processor.

not sure if it be worth it to try to upgrade the ps to install a new video card.  think also the hd may need an upgrade.

the good thing about your computer is that it has win7 professional, save the key :).

This is just a "feature" of the Intel video chip.

The Intel issue has been thoroughly explained, but since your problems have only recently started, there might be hope: Suggesting you're playing on a laptop, some of which have dual video systems. The better video chip should run games and other graphically intense applications, the Intel chip taking care of less demanding tasks with lower energy consumption and less heat. Now sometimes the system gets mixed up, forgetting which programs to run on the better chip. If that's your case, check your settings.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

I had figured as much and got it sorted-out soon after I posted.

I just started using that PC to play until I get a new power supply for the one I normally use and had not dialed-in the settings, yet.  Everything was still set at default.  It is actually newer than my AH computer but is still using the onboard vid card.

Thanks, though.   :aok
