Landing Craft and the DD Sherman
« on: June 02, 2014, 08:51:18 PM »
As the title suggests, the addition of landing craft would allow for another means of trans porting troops, or even GVs. The DD Sherman, used in the D-Day invasions, would also be very interesting to add to the game. On many maps, the current one included, some of the towns are very close to the shore, making running troops with Higgins boats feasible. But I think it would be more useful if GVs could be carried on larger landing craft. An "invasion ship" could be added, and if sunk, would disable all of these.

I'd wait until they add in Bombardment/Invasion Task Groups.  Doing this now, I doubt the DD Sherman would see much use if at all.  It would be defenseless since it wouldn't be able to use it's main gun unlit feet dry.  The Howy LVT can fight back while in the water, even if it's only HE.

Carrier Task Groups shouldn't go within a MINIMUM of 12.5 miles of a shoreline except with friendly CVTG's and friendly ports.  Bombardment/Invasion Task Groups however, could close to point blank range of a shoreline.

In any event, I'd like to see something like the DD Sherman added still.  I mean, you don't actually have to park the cv off of the enemy base.  Do so somewhere else and pull a CPTDell. :D

+1 to this wish though. :aok

I think HTC could add the LVT with the M3 Stuart turret on top and give it some oomph.  Though, I've taken out multiple M8's and M18's with a near miss from the 75mm HE.   :aok  Anything bigger though and it has a hard time doing much else than laying smoke and hammer town buildings.

I've had the DD idea for a while, with D-Day coming up, I though I might as well post these ideas  :D and yes flyman, I agree with other types of fleets, just wanted to make it easier for HTC if they where to implement this

If the DD is there to support a shore landing, having a 5" SMOKE round to provide some cover for the landing craft approaching the beach would be nice.
