Operation Iceberg - Typhoon of Steel Frame 1 Summary
« on: June 09, 2014, 08:44:43 PM »
Greetings all! Here are the scores from Frame 1. Wanted to get these and the objectives out on Saturday, but I was traveling and visiting family.

ACE MISSIONS

No Allied Ace was relayed to me before the frame by the CIC or anyone else for that matter.

FRAME 1 – F6F-5 - Lt. Eugene A. Valencia (USN)– Valencia began his combat career in the F6F-5 aboard the Essex and at the end of his first cruise his score stood at 7 with combat at Rabaul and Truk. During his second tour with VF-9 Valencia and his fighter division scored 43 of VF-9s 130 kills. He also made ace in a day with 6 kills over Japan on April 17 1945. Valencia retired in 1962 and passed away during an Aces Reunion in 1972.

The Axis Ace was Shamus of JG 11

FRAME 1 – KI-84-IA –Katsuaki Kira (IJAAF) – Kira flew in nearly every JAAF campaign, Manchuria, Dutch East Indies, New Guinea and the Philippines. Kira would encounter the famed US P-38 Ace Dick Bong and do battle with the elite 49 FG. His unit was destroyed in the Philippines and he would withdraw to Formosa. Kira would last see combat in the skies over Okinawa. He survived the war with 21 kills.

Shamus landed successfully but failed to shoot down any enemy aircraft.

The overall numbers were very close. The Number of pilots and the number of kills just a few apart.

However, the Allies edged the Axis out in points.

61 Points separated the two teams in kills, mainly on the back of 38 Ki-67s lost. They both shared the same amount of ships sunk. Both teams sunk their Carrier Objectives by torpedo, doubling the score of those ships. They also both sunk a cruiser by aerial bombing, and the ship scores were tied. The Allies added to their score with the destruction of A32 and several targets at A23. It is worthwhile to point out the Axis almost sank the CV at TF10 which would have cut the score significantly.

In Frame 2, the targets are purely fleet based as the Axis pull back from Okinawa and the Allies surround it with Task Forces.

Good luck all!
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Great Job Nef.  Fun Frame.  I also want to commend you for the torpedo idea.  I have said many times that other players are better at the game than I am.  Personally, I have been playing 10 years and have never sank anything with a torpedo.  I say more skill = more points.

AKDogg was the declared ace for the frame.  I'll take responsibility for the ace mistake.

I was asked before fso to be the ace for frame 1.  But, I understand that it needed to be declared before the start of the frame which I thought it was. :(
