22 June
« on: June 21, 2014, 07:21:17 PM »
Well, it's 22 June in my end of the world anyway.

Hard to let this date go past without noting it was the start of Operation Barbarossa nor, 70 years ago today, Operation Bagration, in which the Red Army destroyed Army Group Centre. Somewhere north of 2 million men involved.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

Also the start of Barbarossa 73 years ago. 3.8 million men, 95% of the Panzer Korps, and almost 4500 aircraft.

Yes I did, and topped it with a more notable event, Barbarossa being the largest invasion in the history of human warfare.

Eastern Europe in particular owes the Soviets quite a bit. Just not the way you mean.

I believe they paid their debts in 40 years under the iron curtain after WW II.

No I know what happened after the war but at least most of the Eastern Europeans were alive to experience it.

The Soviet Union was no ray of sunshine but compared to what the Nazi's had planned.....?
