widgets have changed
« on: June 20, 2014, 03:03:19 PM »
Not sure how this happened but three programs in the task bar have lost their original icons:

One is BIOS, one Intel Turbo Boost Monitor and the other is AH Film Viewer.  I opened the AH folder in C drive and ahfilm.exe has the same appearance there, as it does on the task bar.  The programs work fine but would like to know how to get their proper icons back.

You need to rebuild the Windows ICON cache.  I know the commands to do this, but if you make an error, it could make your computer a paper weight.

Search the net for "rebuilding the Windows ICON cache" and it should get you the results you need.

Surely you mean it's nothing an OS reinstall wouldn't fix. Paper weight would require damaged hardware.

Okay, so I exaggerated a bit.  More like a pet rock, than a paper weight, where you think it is alive, but it really is not.

I am always nervous about providing a string of "run" commands where I am not the one typing them in.  Some of those commands can do serious damage with a simple typo.

I managed to clear the icon cache, but they came back the same way.  Just going to leave "well enough" alone.  Thanks anyway.

How about right-clicking, choosing "Properties->Change Icon"?
