Bombardier issue

Not really a bug but this is what I have noticed.  I am in a bomber, B17, and using carpet bombing.  Say salvo set to 12 (500 pounders) and delay .56.  While bombs are dropping I have the need to jump to gunner.  The bombs stop dropping from the bomb bay.  Please keep in mind that one is simulating the actions of a crew 10.  So I think the bombs should keep dropping.

it's not a bug.  that's how the game is set.  people have asked many times to let the bombs drop as you jump to gunner but it remains the same.  if you wish to post another wish then go ahead.

but I think you have the option to either bomb or gun but not to actually simulate all 10 of your crew.  that includes the copilot taking over if the pilot gets wounded like it happened in real life.

There was an update, a long time ago, that gave us the current issue. I think it would be nice if it went away.  I like to carpet bomb and defend myself.

and how do you propose we fix in this situation.  you are in the pipe 5 or 6 seconds away from dropping bombs and fighters are attacking you.  but you decide to decide to defend yourself and hope for another pass.  what is really the difference between one and the other?

I like the way it is now because it gives priority of accuracy over carpet bombing.  I have yet to not have my bombs drop because i jump to the gunner position.  then again I only drop 1 or 2 bombs at a time, sometimes 3.  but that gives you more than enough time to drop and jump to gunner.

I suggest that the program code be changed to allow the eggs to continue dropping.  Just like in the real deal.  I use carpet bombing for factories, strat cities, and base towns.

Doing the math I have a spreadsheet set up to calculate the delay for the carpet installation.  For example, on a strat city I use a B-17 and 12 500 pounders.  With a salvo of 12 and a delay of .94 one can expect to destroy 7 city blocks.  Now if one bombs along the street line between the city blocks one can get as many as 14 city blocks.

Simulating the real deal.

I totally understand your issue 2slow but look at it from my point of view.  I am in a fighter and I am trying to stop you from dropping bombs.  many times I just come straight on your six because I didnt have time to get alt on you.  so I risk dying to stop you.  so your choice is to jump to gunner instead of having all the bombs drop.  just like I am gonna get killed by coming straight on your six nice and level.  It's a trade off.

You can say well, you should have upped earlier and waited for you with alt.  at the same time I can say you should have been higher. or perhaps bring a gunner.

but really I dont see it any different than when I fight to get on a bogie's six and his friend decides to get on mine.  I dont come here trying asking for a change so that when I get behind a bogie then nobody can get behind me.

you must choose between attack or defend, just like we all do in fighters.

It's not a good trade off and quite frankly, not a real need for it.

Not quite the same issue.  If one jump to guns then eggs stop dropping grom bomb bay.  I finish gunning and return to bombardier then the eggs resume dropping.  So one must close bomb bay doors before returning and setup a new apporch,  Then ope bomb bay doors when on target so the eggs may resume dropping at the salvo all settings.

no, i think it's the same thing.  my job is to stop you from dropping those bombs.  so I am giving you a choice, defend yourself or drop bombs but not fair to do both.  specially when most of the time I hit bombers over the base and no time to get to proper altitude and properly attack.  unless of course I dont care if you drop bombs or not.

I myself have been hit within 1 or 2 seconds of dropping bombs.  then the full calibration has to be redone as I cant hit hangars if I lose my main buff.  but in the city you can still drop bombs and hit if you quickly jump and lose the main bomber.

it should be a challenge to get in and get out and that is the reward of it.  the reward for the attacking fighter should be to stop you from dropping bombs.

a bomber should never have to simulate having all 10 positions manned at the same time.  remember there's only 1 guy flying it.  and you already have an option of defending yourself while having the bombs fall.  bring a gunner.
