Auto Climb
« on: July 14, 2014, 10:02:18 PM »
Could this feature be changed as to where the auto climb doesnt have the aircraft dive when it's not at the default climb speed.

This has gotten me into losing the aircraft just after takeoff a few times, and losing alt when the auto haves you dive to gain the amount of speed needed.
Maybe it would be better if instead of diving to gain speed, that the autopilot would just set the plane level until the amount of speed needed is gained? :headscratch:

Thoughts?

Use auto level or auto angle for a bit to get speed up before using auto climb.

This is why.

I want to be lazy....and let the auto climb do that for me. :lol

Just use auto take off, set heading and level for a whopping ten seconds. Then, get your auto climb on.

You could also program a macro that does that for you if you have an advanced joystick, keyboard or gaming mouse.
Once, again the lazy might get a hold of you there.  :D

However, I don't think HiTech or the AH community wants this game to be any more "easy mode". Otherwise we would have air spawns in the MA, making the MMOLWW2CFS ( Massive Multi-player On Line WW2 Combat Flight Sim) too gamey. :headscratch:

If pushing one auto pilot mode button vs another is too much work then you might want to reconsider your button mapping.  ;)
Not a bad wish. I just doubt we'll see it any time soon.

There is no such command as "auto climb". It's called "auto speed". It's designed to keep your plane flying at the set indicated airspeed. If you apply more power than needed to maintain the speed, you climb. If you use less power, then you descend. If you're flying slower than the set speed, the plane dives to reach that speed.

That's correct. It is properly called auto speed and it defaults to the suggested climb speed. This is likely why it's popularly known as auto climb.

1. it is auto-speed - actually helps a lot with dead-stick landing when you need to fly for a while at best glide ratio.
2. Just fly for a while manually until you reach the suitable speed and then auto-trim the plane on speed.

Thoughts?
:airplane: After takeoff, get your nose up a bit above the horizon and then press Shift + X, which will hold the aircraft in that attitude until you change it. After gaining a couple of thousand feet above the ground level, wiggle your stick just a bit, then again get the nose above the horizon, then hit Alt + X for auto climb. then if you desire, if the aircraft is climbing at say, 190, (B-29), then enter: forward slash, dot, space bar, then 170, then press enter and the aircraft will climb at 170. I would always, since you are not a pilot, let the aircraft gain speed until at least 150MPH indicated airspeed, then engaged Alt + X, then you wont lose an aircraft due to mis use of the auto pilot system.
Blue Skies and wind at my back and wish that for all!!!

It isn't auto climb, it is auto speed.  Leave it as it is….useful for descents in bombers.
