SSstutter
« on: July 23, 2014, 06:21:06 AM »
Hey Forum

re-listing after MANY years away, setting up a new rig and have the FPS up to either a steady 60 and everything looking great but only in the tower. Once im in the plane I have the same great FPS but with a stutter. now, I DID fix this before but it was many moons ago. I also know that its not a lack of memory or poor PC performance cause I do remember fixing this with-in my nvidia control panel. Even when I was installing the game I was aware "I will have to find that stuffer fix again a bet" but this time I cannot figure out how I fixed it. I done the routine of setting it all to full throttle then going through each setting one at a time to see what one stoped the stutter. but I just cant find it. So my first new thread is a help one im afraid. The fix could be elsewere from the nvidia panel so if theres anything below that could be altered to improve the PC then please do give a shout, Hope skuzzy or someone has seen the problem before. checked firewall and security and its all setup as normal but again im open to all help.

Cheers  V'

A DXDIAG output would provide more details.

Also, what in-game settings are you using?

Also note, the game is optimized for the default video card settings in the NVidia control panel.

Now, when you say "stutter", could you describe it in more detail?  There are several types of "stutters".  Mouse or stick input lag?  Pauses during view switching?  You get the idea.

I think i found the problem skuzzy, I had Multi threading on, once i turned it of the stutter stoped but Ive a more pressing matter now, after 30mins of play the frames rate droped to null - 1. I see in the info box my memory is 4048 yet only 7.6m is being used, frame rate has been clamped to a smooth 30 and its running well like it used too apert from the details in the memory info.

The in-game info is not correct for Windows 7 or 8.  It shows the total amount of video RAM available, which also includes system RAM added to the video RAM.  It does not show the actual amount used either.

A frame rate drop, like that, would normally happen if the game loop got blocked from running due to it being hung up waiting for an event, or something else blocking it from running.

The game is natively multi-threaded and does require threading to run.  When you say you turn off multi-threading, I assume you mean in the NVidia control panel/driver?  This would be the correct thing to do as that feature is really meant for games which are not multi-threaded by design.

I noted your video card has an odd amount of video RAM available (1.2GB).  Try disabling the Aero desktop (switch to a plain/regular desktop).

Remember, I cannot see your PC screen.

I need a very detailed description of the exact conditions being displayed that lead up to the stutter and how it is impacting the game.  Please be as detailed as possible.

got ya,

The games FPS is steady at 30 and never drops one. it runs smooth all the time, you can see the fps is good but every two to three seconds its like the game has 2-3 judders, or stutters if you will. this only happins in-flight and it does not effect the mouse. i can continure to wave the arrow about and it wont stop or stutter. Im more worried about not using the PC to its full potential as it runs all PC games very well. Even for only a mid-end system. Ive reset all nvidia settings to default and it has again stoped the stutter but as I say I think I could do better that 30 fps. I think its locked at that. what do u think?

As the monitor is a 60Hz monitor, you need to find out why you are being limited to 30FPS in the game.  It should be capped at whatever the monitor refresh rate is.  In this case, 60.

The game has no control over that.

ah, I see by default nvidia set very sync to adapt-half refresh. set it to ON and im up to 60-59 fps, thanks man.

This has been a productive thread for me. Anything you would advise on the PC setup/memory areas?

Even with the same hardware, Windows computers can vary wildly in performance.  It all depends on what is installed and how it is configured.

The best advice I can give it to try an option and if it works well for you, then use it.

With video card having 1.2GB of video RAM, I would be careful about using anti-aliasing @ 1920x1080, in conjunction with large shadow textures (Options->Graphic Details->Advanced).  You could easily run the video card out of physical RAM.

You can reduce the load on the card by reducing the "field of view" value form the default of 106 (for 16:9 aspect ratio monitors).

It is all up to you.
