Latrobe, your leaving is truly a loss for the MA.  I always search the MA for a good turn fight (I fly the A6M5 almost exclusively) and share your frustration on finding fewer and fewer fights over the years.  Several times you have put my Zero into kit-form using a P-47.  Entering into a fight thinking "that P-47 is meat on the table" only to have you throw that plane around in a turn that I would have thought impossible is not only humbling, but made the fights truly exhilarating.  The fact that other players will brag when they actually shoot you down is testament that you reached your goal of being one of the best.

Best wishes and I hope you will someday return!  <SALUTE>!!!

Latrobe - I don't think we ever met but I enjoyed your videos.  They were very informative and definitely helped up my combat skills.

If you're anything like me, you'll get the itch again in a few weeks and you will be back.  If not, thanks for your contributions.

Everyone's going to hate me for this but if you were a fighter you wouldn't be running away.  You'd stick around and try to improve the game.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

8 years ago I would have never thought this day would come but I have decided to cancel my account for AH2.

Latrobe, you are the least hypocritical player in the game. You do as you say, and remain polite to those you disagree with. Aces High is much poorer without your presence. I don't say that lightly, I will miss having you around.

Must be a burden to be so good. How about coming back incognito and don't fly the signature plane you love so much. See what you can do in other planes with a different name. Anyone sees you knows you will fight, they also know they will die. Remember it's summertime also. I'm going swimming right now and if I can avoid wife ack I'll plop my arse in my chair and log on after i dry out. I guess what I'm saying is, don't go. Peace.

It was a pleasure to fight against you the few times this happened.  It is a shame your last few months were on the knights because if you would have been any other country i would have been there, on occasion, to kill you.  :devil

The down and dirty fighter style of gameplay you seemed to exude is one that i enjoy playing against.  Very reminiscent of running into greebo or midway. A real Gem in the community.  Its a shame you are quiting although it is not surprising. considering the climb, boom, and run tactics of most fighters and ever present war, it is hard to get guys to fight your fight.  Couple that with your own one dimensional style of play and boredom and frustration is sure to follow.

Oh well, god cant make them all perfect.

Best of luck.

Running seems like a simple tactic to counter most of the time in AH. Simply get in something very fast yourself, and mostly they won't even try to run, and if they do they'll tend to be caught.

However, doing so involves getting out of earlier, more lightly wing-loaded planes and into craft that may not handle as pleasantly. I think this is why so many players complain about runners instead of simply solving the problem by clicking on something fast in the hangar.
The problem is that, then, you're sinking to the level of the lest skilled. Score and ratios don't truly indicate ability, and those who run just prove their lack of it. Latrobe is a fighter, not a runner. It comes down to this: the game is about fighting, not running. The decline of the game in the MA is horrible, with those who value an inaccurate indicator like rank or score imagining that they contribute to the game. They're wrong. They are just speeding up the time when there will be nothing but runners in the game, and then....it will just go away.

A couple other ideas, Latrobe, which you've probably already considered but I'll say them anyway:
1). Focus on special events like FSO and Scenarios where enemies can't help but engage in a fight (the best part of AH, in my opinion)
2). Become a trainer in the TA on one (or more) nights a week so all your fans here can take you on and learn from you in the process.

 :salute

Edit: Two more ideas:
3). Try flying a newer sim like IL-2: BoS or ILYA Muromets, add some videos to your channel, and bring your experience/feedback from there back to AH
4). Come over and fly with VF-17 The Jolly Rogers. You'd missed our great little group of pirates during your squad rotations  :)

The last 6 months I have gotten into very few decent fights, most of which have been the result of me having to ask on channel 200 if anyone wants to fight and getting a reply from a close friend in the game. The vast majority of my sorties (I'd say around 98% of them) involve me upping towards a red dar bar, merging with someone, and watching them dive straight to the deck and run to ack. I break off, look for another target, and repeat the same process until I either run out of fuel or bail out from boredom. Heck, I even had one guy PM me asking why I wouldn't fight him! And by fight him he meant "why won't you follow me into my base ack?" This is not what I'm pay $15 a month for.

I feel you brother and I'll miss your goofyness Latydoo. Hitech killed dogfighting when he made the AAA stronger to avoid airbase being vulched :furious. I avoid hordes and go for the single/double con inbound (thank God for the big maps). Even then most hit the deck and run for their AAA. Since I'm in a P47 I rarely catch them before they reach their base. Even P47 Vs Spit16 on 1 on 1 and guys circle their AAA. If you need kills that bad I'll be glad to bail out for christ sake, but don't play a fighter pilot game.
