K4 vs 152 question.
« on: November 09, 2014, 08:32:43 PM »
Who has the advantage in a Below 10K fight?

(These numbers are when the planes are crossing 3-9 line)

TA152 @ 4.9K going 332 TAS
109K4 @ 5.1K going 322 TAS

Honestly in my eyes the speed/alt here doesn't matter at all, it's not far enough off for there to be a huge difference...neither plane could effectively rope the other.

As a person who gets a good bit of hours each month in these rides I would say I'd rather be in the K4's shoes if I'm all about the win....but in the end, I like to TnB in a 152 so I normally get ganged or picked after I lost all my E......but in this situation, the K4 flew like a 2 weeker and got killed in 2 turns. Not his fault he probably hasn't flown too much of the plane set. :aok

I believe the K4. It could stay with the 152 in a rope, but the K4 has better stall fight capabilities. 152 better not miss his first shot..

The K4 has the better speed at 10K and below, and at 5K (and below), the merge alt you describe, the K4 has it's largest climb rate advantage over the TA.  I believe the K4 is also better handling at slower speeds while also having better acceleration to regain E when needed.

Assuming equal pilot skill (and no HO shooting, firepower of the TA being its sole advantage here), it would seem to me the K4 should win handily.

152 should never out fly the K4 below 10k, at least I've never been outflown below 10k by a 152 in my K4. It's just that the K4 is so much more nimble and can regain it's E so quickly at those altitudes there's little the 152 can do but run, come back, run, come back.. Any extended turn fight will be ez game for the K4.. E fights or vertical fights the K4 will at least keep up with the 152 enough that it shouldn't be very effective.. etc.

Granted there are some 152 gods I've heard rumors about that may be able to out fly most K4s in their 152.. But that's just pilot skill.

The K4 can win hands down. The 152 just doesn't have the capability to do much to a well flown K4 at that altitude.

Note "well flown". :noid

Agree 100%, it's all pilot error. I see a 152 1v1 CO E in a K4 I'm think Tator in a wing or he's diving out.

Depends on the pilot but if the 152 only fights with his advantages over the k4(slow speed vertical e fight) I would say the 152. But if you have an experienced k4 pilot he will see it coming and yeah there's really no way to tell.

Anything past the first few moves and the 152 is dead though, since the k4 can regain e better.

The intangibles always come in to play.  A P-47D11 should never beat a K4 under 10K but it happens all the time

I agree, K4 should win with equal/same pilot.  The TA just has no really massive advantages over the K4 at most alts under stratosphere heights, except firepower and ammunition magazine size.  The TA may be easier to roll certain directions at certain speeds, but this is offset IMO by the unstable nose pointing similar to the SPit14 and such that happens with the TA under certain conditions.  The 152 may hold some cards at medium altitude, but it's like holding a pair of 5's with a straight flush draw and 2 aces showing as the 5 face up cards on the board.

Certainly a good 152 pilot could beat an average or even good K4 pilot, especially if the K4 pilot makes a mistake or misses his shot after the merge and subsequent maneuvers for first shot.  After years of flying the G10 here and then the K4 afterwards, I know which one I would want to be in under 25k.

This thread makes me wish for a Ta152C-3 model, with clipped wings and 2 extra MG151 in the nose cowling.  4 20mm 151's with that potato gun in the hub = P38 like focused firepower, almost, in a very nifty ride.  Such an addition as well as perhaps the G.55 Centaur would be great to see here someday.

What are either of those doing at under 10k?
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB
