AI

Would actually love to see some kind of benefits from the now-abandoned effort, was it Combat Tour? Could do some neat offline stuff, or AI for missions, or indeed rear-echelon AI aircraft as was done back in the days of Air Warrior.

I imagine there's a lot of strongly anti-AI folks out there, I'd still be willing to bet there's a useful place for it in the next iteration of AH.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

I thought about having AI missions launch every 3-6 hours that would alert both sides as to where they were going. Where you would have 15+ bombers and a few AI escort (programmed for medium level, not shoot you down in a second level  :D ). And then players could join the fight or defend it or completely ignore it.  The AI wouldn't level the target completely only 30% or so.

I don't want AI to take over, but having AI here and there in little sections to possibly create combat, wouldn't be a bad thing.   For scenarios like the Battle of Britain they would be awesome.

Sums it up nicely.  :aok

The off-line missions have the use of AI and they are .... well not to bad  :D At one point they were looking into adding them to the custom arenas as well as the AvA arena. I think there was some glitch that popped up that HTC was going to have to work on to get it going but they were already into this upgrade work they are in now so it's on hold.

There are a few co-op AI missions that automatically run several times a day in the play room arena. Currently can't make any new ones.

Not when logged in and numbers are low.  Better to fight something red than nothing at all!

+1 for AI during low player number times.

Seriously dudes, this is already going on in the Playroom arena. I have mentioned this several times but haven't even heard that anyone has tried them.

I haven't advertised it a lot because I only had 3 missions that seemed to be working at the time, and I cannot currently make anymore or change the one's I have. Hopefully they still work.

Here are the instructions.

Give it a try and let me know how they work.

If you want them to start at some other time let me know.

As soon as we get a fixed mission editor, I'll make more and alter these to join in progress etc.

 *************MISSION THEATRE*****************

Missions will start at 1:00pm 2:00pm and 3:00pm EST
repeat at 6:00pm 7:00pm and 8:00pm ESTand at 11:00pm,
12:00am and1:00 am EST.

During the automatic terrain changeover, the arena will
be emptied and players will need to log back
in prior to the mission start.

The mission will automatically launch 5 to 10
minutes past the hour.

To select a side and an aircraft, go to
Staged Missions-Populate Missions, highlight
your game name and double click the slot you
wish to fly

Certain slots may be listed as AI only. These should
not be chosen by players.

This pretty much sums things up, it is top of the list after a solid beta is out.

It would be cool to have a set of premade training missions to help people learn the game along with a tutorial with various setups/angles/opponents. For example:

1st mission: Follow an AI in an easy turn to practice gunnery
2nd mission: Follow an AI through a loop
3rd mission: Do a conversion to end up on a bandit's 6
....Attack a bomber stream from different angles
.... Bomb a wirbl
etc etc

Or does this already exist?
