Actually I think the number does change a bit depending on terrain.

I won't disagree with that at all. I just wanted to express that overall this change is much smaller than the kill numbers seem to indicate. And at low number hours, the Gv game is usually the first gameplay option to break down entirely.

It's all about the manner of which these larger missions fly.

If a large mission doesn't engage another large red dar...or give early warning that it's coming in...then it's bad for game play.

The best fights in this game are the large  scale ones with 15 vs 15 plus...the more the better as long as the fight stays pretty even.

Hordes don't necessarily ruin the game. It's the horde that disappears after coming to a base NOE that ruin gameplay.

What JunkyII said  :aok  I have spent way too much time chasing dar bars looking for a fight and ending up  :headscratch:  still looking for a fight  :uhoh

A lot of interesting discussion here, and I want to be clear that my "leave it" title in no way meant to exit the game / cancel subscription (I am way to pleased with my fun pastime and very good friends).  I meant that base capture, has always given me some feeling of advancing skill and achievement, but only when the goal is achieved.

Taking a knife to a gunfight, is not my cup of tea, so my interest goes somewhere else other than base capture.  If this occurs with many others, the system of creating air combat could be falling off for that reason alone.

This is where the players can fix the problem.

A mission planner can anticipate issues such as resupply and defense and can adjust his plan to try and get around these issues. If the base to be attacked has 3 spawns coming in you need 6 guys to pork those 3 spawns, maybe even twice. You need timing of the strikes so that the supplies are not available for the longest amount of time.
...
That is at least 6 more players that you need on top of the normal group to take the town down, kill acks, GVs and maintain air superiority. If without resupplies you could do that with 7-8 players, you now need 13-14 players minimum. If the enemy has already spawned GVs or fighters, you'll need many more planes with ordnance, easily pushing the number to 20.

I mush emphasize that this is assuming the defenders show some minimal resistance. NOE surprise raid, 3 20k buff formation that shut down the base before the main force, or in case the other side does not bother to defend, the attackers can do with fewer players.

"Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture, torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals."

I'd be not so sure about the latter. At least I can see no general increase in GV usage over the years based on changed town sizes and increased downtimes. The only thing that I clearly can see was an increase in GV usage after switching to the new control system. (Based on actual tiem spend in vehicles)

What's really interesting about the last few days on FesterMA  are the low GV combat stats (compared to plane stats):

(Image removed from quote.)

noticed that myself..hugely disappointed..thought since we had  a21 the only capturable base there..there would be mass fights to take it from us..nope 1 or 2 guys with m4s starting to deack and take down town.I drive my t2 to end of runway zoom and kill them..they never return

No you weren't. It's not about anyone doing 'wrong' or 'right'

But how do you expect them to return just being long range sniped from uber tanks from the end of the runway? And would you expect the other country to drive around all around that airfield to get to the town in the first place?
