New Intel 2011v3 platform

Has anyone (cough Chalenge) built one of these, or seen one up close and personal running current games and video editing stuff?

The 5960x is pretty dismal with current games due to directx and other issues from most of the reviews I've read.  The 5820x apparently performs about the same as the outgoing 4960x, or prior king of the hill CPU until this last week for Intel, at about 1/3 the cost.  I just don't know if it's worth it to upgrade from 3930k Socket 2011 and 3820k systems up to the 58xx CPUs.  The gains seem pretty minimal to me in most gaming tests so far.  A decent 2011v3 MB is around the 400$ mark, or higher for the ROG or Sabertooth types, there is a few in the mid 350$ range from Gigabyte, but the RAM is very expensive too, 16gb is more than the MB in many cases.  Pretty much 11 to 1200$ for a MB, RAM, and 5820k CPU in Canadian $ from the top 3 suppliers. 

I'm honestly a little disappointed, and was going to upgrade/build another couple of new systems this fall, but it really looks like there isn't much point, as the performance gains of 10% or less from what tests are coming back with sure don't make it very attractive.

I was thinking about upgrading to the new one from my current system (i5 3570k). I've heard some horror stories so far, a few mobo's have burned up due to defects...and I can imagine there will be plenty of instabilities for a while. It is about 1600 usd for the cheapest (ha) i7-5960x setup.

I had always wondered about why Intel would never fully vet the original 2011 socket stuff before trying to run an offshoot vers off of it......for Haswell-E?

IMHO it is going to be a chore for Intel & manufacturers to fully flesh out the 2011v3 socket due to not fully fleshing out the 2011 socket 1st thus the skyrocketing pricing & potential lackluster performance when compared..........& peak enough interest to get folks to take the plunge.............

I plan to eventually upgrade to the X-99 stuff at some time but due to the level of performance of the current 2011 socket stuff w/ the Ivy Bridge-E CPU's (finally brought the full native support & potential to the socket, IMHO, that should've been there from jump street) it needs to provide a very significant performance leap to justify the costs for ole Pudgie to jump this time..................

Gonna be interesting if an original 2011 compliant vers of Haswell-E CPU shows up........................... .....

Oh well, I'm just an old, fat wanna be Intel executive anyway...................

Well, Haswell-E is just a refresher to incorporate DDR4 memory.

Granted, it IS a new flagship 8 core processor for them...but someone had to take on DDR4.

Soon there will be DDR4 boards for cheaper cpus too. Bang per buck wise the extreme editions have always been poor.

Too bad AMD doesn't have new chipsets, the FX processors compare to older i7:s at a fraction of cost.

No, I will not be an early adopter. Like you I do not see the incentive to do so.

EDIT: Usually it is the architecture update period of the process node that makes the most sense anyway. In this case that would be Skylake I think they are calling it.
