:airplane:  no problem, I didn't take exception with the reply! but I knew he didn't know about the "entrance" gates to ATL at 8,000 feet. Best way to avoid traffic when climbing is sometimes straight over the airport, because everything is below you!

Things have changed...

That's not how it is done any more.   Flown out of Atlanta plenty.   It is Class B.   You get a clearance--usually a SID or, out of a satellite airport not served by a SID, "enter controlled air space heading xxx"--with an altitude and an "as filed" or a full route clearance if different.

"Unrestricted" is almost never used unless someone is going to climb or descend at an excessive rate.  A Goon wouldn't qualify if it still has its wings on.

The joke was about a slow climbing plane given an unrestricted clearance.   Pretty funny stuff as normally that's reserved for a Viking Departure in a Hornet or Eagle.

:airplane: I a lot has changed since I last flew professionally in 1997, 17 years ago and yes, I filed sid's almost every time I departed, but back in late 50's and early 60's, when I was flying 13300, sid's weren't in use as I recall and things were much more verbal with ATC back then and that was before they put those weather filters on the ATC system and so the channels, if weather was around, were pretty busy! I wouldn't swap those experiences which I had, both bad and good, but you are talking to a 80 year old man and my mind just doesn't remember or work like it used to....I just failed to see the private joke you tried to share with us and I am sorry, but I did not take exception to your reply.  :salute

Not a prob.  I was just joking about a Goon climbing fast.

Been a pilot since 1989 myself.  Professionally since 2000.
