with 4 modes in ah you already quadruple the number of buttons on your joystick. and some joysticks have modes in themselves that give you over 100 different buttton functions. so in theory you could have well over 400 buttons, what exactly are you planing to map that you need that many.
I have the x55 and I still have about a bunch of buttons/toggle switches that I havent used. and I have ability switch to 3 modes in addition to the 4 in ah, giving me a couple of hundred combinatons that I will never use.
I think the question to the op and to tell us which joystick he has. and why that change is important. perhaps the easy answer should be to use all the options in ah and if you still need more then why?

Toggling a mode back and forth is one more thing to keep track of versus hitting 2 buttons at the same time to get the desired effect rather than having to remember which mode you're currently in. I have the buttons set to one thing, and the multi button presses for once in a while things, like gear, fuel management, etc. I use the ingame modes for plane/GV, and I use the modes on my stick to affect what happens when I pull the trigger for regular gunnery, tater chucking planes, and bombers.
Myself, I use the profiling software to get the desired effect, plus macros occasionally. It would simply be more fair if people without the option to use profiling software could get the same effect with their gear.
Why is more optional configuration capability bad?
