Function Button
« on: October 26, 2014, 01:41:43 AM »
I think it would be nice to be able to map one button on my stick as a function button.  This would effectively double the things one could map to the rest of the buttons.
If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.

You can already use modes to map 4 functions to each button.

Rather than that, how about just allowing button combinations?  Button 1+button2 being something different than button1 or button2.  How you use them would be up to you.

with 4 modes in ah you already quadruple the number of buttons on your joystick.  and some joysticks have modes in themselves that give you over 100 different buttton functions.  so in theory you could have well over 400 buttons, what exactly are you planing to map that you need that many.

I have the x55 and I still have about a bunch of buttons/toggle switches that I havent used.  and I have ability switch to 3 modes in addition to the 4 in ah, giving me a couple of hundred combinatons that I will never use.

I think the question to the op and to tell us which joystick he has.  and why that change is important.  perhaps the easy answer should be to use all the options in ah and if you still need more then why?

My stick has no function key.  When you say four modes, do you mean as in mode one: planes and mode 2: vehicles/boats?

I was looking for a monitor cable and came across my old Ti-85.

In the AH controller setup, select mode 3 then copy mode 1 to mode 3. Select an unused button or free one up. Map the button to "select mode 1". Select mode 1 in setup and map the same button to "select mode 3". Now you can push a button to change modes. Change any assignments in mode 3 that you want to be different from mode 1. Now you have a function key.

You're welcome.

BTW you can set different scaling on each mode but the deadband and damping will be the same.  For example if you like to shoot zoomed in sometimes you can scale mode 3 so that it's easier to aim when zoomed in. It's best to move the stick to center before you change modes if the scaling isn't the same.

I set my modes by plane type or GV.  I have a fighter mode then that is divided into with canon and without.  A bomber mode that picks up things like calibration and switches the hat switch to gun positions. A Gv mode that uses the slider for gun range and the hat for gun positions.

Note: Please HTC have a standard numbering system.

Toggling a mode back and forth is one more thing to keep track of versus hitting 2 buttons at the same time to get the desired effect rather than having to remember which mode you're currently in.  I have the buttons set to one thing, and the multi button presses for once in a while things, like gear, fuel management, etc.  I use the ingame modes for plane/GV, and I use the modes on my stick to affect what happens when I pull the trigger for regular gunnery, tater chucking planes, and bombers.

Myself, I use the profiling software to get the desired effect, plus macros occasionally.  It would simply be more fair if people without the option to use profiling software could get the same effect with their gear.

Why is more optional configuration capability bad?

An often overlooked solution too is voice activated command software that works amazingly well.
