Thanks to Lyric1 for finding me info for this skin. There is a photo of the real vehicle
here.
This Jagdpanzer IV L/70 was one of two abandoned in a field on the in late September 1944 by their crews and examined in detail by US 1st Army Intelligence. It was probably part of Panzer Brigade 108 which attacked and was defeated by the US 5th Armoured Division near Huttingen on the French-German border. This unit was one of a number of Panzer Brigades formed in 1944 at the personal order of Adolf Hitler. The idea was for tank/infantry unit that was small enough (2-3 battalions) to remain unnoticed by the enemy but powerful enough to deal a decisive blow at a local level. As such they were lavishly equipped with Panther tanks, half tracks and the latest Jagdpanzer IV L/70 tank destroyers. Crews were a mixture of raw recruits sprinkled with a few veterans drawn from other units. The Panzer Brigade experiment proved to be a disaster. With little or no training they were thrown against the western Allies as they neared Germany. Lacking proper reconnaissance, engineer and artillery support most were decimated in their first engagement. Within a couple of months the Brigades were dissolved and the survivors sent to other units.
This was one of the first Jagdpanzer IV L/70s off the production line and had zimmerit anti-magnetic mine paste applied to the hull sides. This practice was discontinued on German tanks a few weeks after the L/70 entered production and so was quite rare on this vehicle.
