<S> Bish Mossie XVI raid to A133 last night
« on: November 10, 2014, 06:55:49 AM »
I dont know who posted this mission but I wanted to give a big <S> to all participants. This is the first large Mossie bombers mission that I see in the MA.

I (a lone rook) in my Mossie VI was hovering over their takeoff base to investigate the big red bar in the sector. To my delight I spoted a large swarm of distant dots flying away at around 12-14k. I rub my hands together and announce it on country channel. Then I look again and all the dots disappeared!  :headscratch:

So I pick up some speed and head in their general direction to try and spot them. Finally I see them again, but closing the distance very slowly. At that point country channel announced it was a mossie mission. No way I can catch them before their drop. The XVI is faster than the VI starting at 7k and my alt advantage gave me only a slow closure rate. I dodge a 190D on the way and prepare to catch them as they turn after the drop. The good thing about a perked bomber is that the players do not bail after dropping their ords (perk all drones damnit!)...

To my surprise they pull a lazy right handed turn, keep together and level as if they were heavy bombers that defend each other with their guns. This allowed me to kill one drone and two more from another formation before that 190D was on me again and made be break off. I think a few more mossies were lost to defending fighters. This was their biggest mistake. The bomber mossie is not like other bombers. Flying in a tight group only makes it easier to shoot down multiple mossies as I fly through the gaggle and blast at everything in my path. There is absolutely no reason that at the egress the XVI will be at less than 400 mph and in a shallow dive (level speed at 13k is about 390mph on WEP) - 500 if followed by fighters. Also, a B Mossie formation without good fighter escort that disrupts the defenders and make them fall behind, has big problems. A single B mossie on the other hand is a slippery target that can out maneuver fighters and escape - even if caught, they fighters that shot it down will never catch up again with the rest of the bombers.

This was more red mossies than what I meet in several tours combined and I feel a little bad for shooting them down because I would like to see more missions like that. Keep your speed up mossies!

Mosquito VI - twice the spitfire, four times the ENY.

damn, I live to join in / intercept those types of missions :bhead

One of my favorite things to do in this game is fly a mossie16 into a furball and watch all the Red guys poo themselves as they see the MOSS icon coming Head on For them.

Mossie6 makes for a great escort fighter though as well as an interceptor.
