Need Hand With Curved Text On Graphic

Hi guys,
   I'm in need of a hand from a "graphics guy".
On the logo above (hopefully it shows up), I would
like the words "Per Ardur Ad Astra" removed and

425 Squadron placed in the bottom half of the
circle, underneath the eagle, text facing upwards.
  The gold "maple leaf" can remain or not, depending
on the whims of the artist who can work it up for
me.

FYI, "425 SQUADRON" will fit in along the top of the emblem if you would rather have it up there.

I'm thinking that maybe the actual squadron motto could perhaps
go in the top half of the circle?

The French is the actual, but the English translation is fine also.

I don't know exactly what you are planning on doing with this so I made two different images. The first is the standard image, the second is a PNG with a transparent background. This way it should work with any situation.

Can you work the bottom half of the text to be "rightside up" as per this
monstrocity below?



  I actually tried earlier today placing one letter at a time onto the graphic, then
moving and rotating it. It worked "kinda", but the spacing and the look was awful.
I tried mimicing a tutorial on curved text a few times, but I can never get it to do
what I want; the text always winds up nicely curved, but upside down.

  My friend and fellow AH pilot CFSight formed up a new squadron, "425 Squadron RCAF",
so I thought I might surprise him with a cool graphic for a squad website or somethin'.
 I really appreciate you helpin' me out with it. <S>

I can try but I don't know if my editor actually supports curved text in that direction. I've never used it to curve that way so I will need to read into it a bit. I'm about to head off to FSO so I'll need to give it another go in the morning.

But of the two I submitted, which would you rather have?

Hi Dragon Tamer,
  Hope you got a few pelts in the FSO.
Of the two, the PNG with transparent background
would be the best choice for me. That'd give me
some flexibility using it.
  I hope you can figure out the "word flipping". I've got Paint Shop Pro 9
and can do very simple stuff, but wrapping letters around a curved
object isn't one of 'em.

use a negative number to get the text to bend the other way.

GIMP has a funny way of mapping the text to a certain path. I did manage to get it to look right but I'm not exactly sure what I did...

Nice looking thing! "Je te plumerai" is about the only thing I can remember of the song "Alouette, gentille alouette", somehow it has stuck into some small locker of my memory.

As for the font, IMO the original Art Nouveau style font is more readable than the medieval Gregorian style.

I agree, sadly I don't have that font installed on my computer. This was the closest match that I had.
