I think it's slightly more likely this went so long unnoticed because anyone who actually USES IE is considered an idiot from the get-go. That would be like unearthing a new weakness in floppy disks...

Microsoft has fixed this specific bug along with several others in its latest Patch Tuesday update earlier this week

Wanna bet half of Windows users still have the patches uninstalled after a year from now? Besides, some Microsoft based webmail and other services still only seem to work on IE only. Then again, who would like to read work e-mails at home?

I installed the patch on Tuesday.

Don't use IE though, never have except for providing tech support to people who do.

I still remember the main reason why the Blaster worm spread so widely: Those who got infected hadn't installed the patch released over a year before.
