Interesting how 70 years after the fact we are still getting new information about World War II.

This was lots of fun! I've posted my after action report in the Special Events - This Day in History forum. Hopefully some other folks filmed sorties and will post their pics or films.

Interesting how differently this played out from the last scenario, especially given the lack of surprise. In the scenario the far more structured and planned command and control enabled the Americans to have patrols to cover each probable line of approach and vector an appropriate number of fighters to each incoming threat while holding a reserve for the following waves. Single-day events don't have that structure and as a result most of the bombers (apart from the first wave of torpedo bombers on the deck) were able to slip in unopposed. Of course the numbers imbalance had a lot to do with that too.

Wow, looks like the Allies got a LOT more kills than the impression I got on vox. According to the log it was Americans 138 kills, Japanese 79 kills + 159 objects destroyed = 94.9 points. Congratulations to the Americans!

(Or is it scored by lost aircraft or pilots rather than kills awarded? The result would be the same either way for this event, but given that it's a team event the former seems a more accurate reflection of the results - a pilot who crashes far from any enemy after the plane that crippled him was shot down is just as dead as one who is killed by an enemy who lives long enough to register the kill.)
