Looking for a book about the USAAF
« on: November 21, 2014, 05:20:45 AM »
It is a reprint of a book originally published in late 1944, I think.
It was created to inform the public about the workings and structure of the USAAF.
The reprint was done as close to wartime specs as was possible. This is mentioned in the front of the book.
I believe it came out in the 80s - 90s, not sure.
It seems like it was around 400 or so pages.
I had checked it out of the library and scanned it a page at a time. However, later on I had a major crash and lost everything including this book, and others.

Now I know this is a very vague discription but I'm hoping someone out there may either have it, seen it or know about it. The title/author/publisher, anything so that I can find it again. I've scoured the library but to no avail.
Any info would be appreciated.

Was it published by the US Government? Like a TM?

The original was published by the Goverment, I think the repeat was too, not sure. It wasn't a training manual, it was hardbound book meant for the average citizen.
It was written to answer everyone's questions about how the USAAF was fighting the war.
It covered eveything from basic structure, logistics, rank & duties, payrates, airfield design, manufacturing war materials, supply lines to deliver said war materials etc.

The Tempe Library no longer has it and could not help with the title. It was an interesting book. I want my own copy that's why I've posted here, hoping someone might have run across it at one time or another

Thanks but no that wasn't it.

However, I'm pretty sure I've found what I am looking for.

The Official WW2 Guide to the AAF US gov't publication
1944 Bonanza Books New York

"This book is a Government publication on the activities of the Army Air Force. The book covers the various positions in a crew, the composition of units, and leaders, as well as a lot of technical data in a easy to read form. A lot of good information and published during the war."

And it doesn't cost much
