  There has been a suggestion that during certain hours, the main arena switch to a smaller map. It might be problematic to switch the arena to a small map, then back to the bigger map when numbers go back up.  How about a second arena with a smaller map opening up at certain times, when you know that numbers are low?

That wouldn't work as intended, because it would still require everybody leaving the first arena and joining the second.
