"Proxy server not responding"

Has anyone ever had this problem? I just cannot fix it. I tried to disable the proxy settings in the "Internet options" tab, if you know what I'm talking about, and it didn't work.

I used malware bytes to clean it up to see if a virus was causing the problem, nothing...


Anyone know how to fix this?

Normally you shouldn't have proxy enabled in the first place. Have you been a bad boy and surfed the internet using Windows again? Tsk.

yep.  years ago under win 95 we had a virus change our HOST file and for a while we were sent through a proxy server first.  capturing keystrokes I guess.   virus scanner did NOT pick it up.  I guess it was beneath them to look into a text file.

• run a bootable virus scan like the F-Secure rescue CD
• back in Windows, run RKill, in this case named iexplore.exe to fool any malware
• Run AdwCleaner
• Run Junkware Removal Tool
• Run ComboFix

If that doesn't do the trick, copy all your photos and other personally created files to an external media and do a clean reinstall of Windows.

Total Commander is a good program for transferring files. Ghisler.com make sure you get the 64/32 bit one.
