Quirky CH problem

Built a new pc (Win7 64 bit, like my old one) Asus Z97i plus, I-5 4690k cpu. Had frightful time getting Windows to recognize the Combatstick and the pedals...finally installed CH Manager, seemed to work.

Tried this new box again last night, nothin. Go into setup...SEE my equipment (only other item there is mouse) Re-assign a couple things like aileron...nothin. Rescan for hardware in CH manager...no reaction, (though it SEES them) Reboot, NOW it sees them, will calibrate. Take off....realize that it's not right....finally realize that the throttle wheel is acting as the aileron, and the aileron is acting as the throttle...and something yet again was making my flaps go down, lol (advice: this setup not conducive to successful aerial operations) Verified mapping....saved the two items as something ELSE, then saved them back to proper....nothin. (at this point, I crashed, ending my FSO efforts for the evening) Yelled heap many profanities, closed game, rebooted box aGAIN, game worked ok. I'm thinking I copied my settings stuff from my old pc, can't remember.....?

I have noticed that the AH default mappings for CH gear are incredibly stupid.  Fire All Guns assigned to all the axis midpoints, other silly functions assigned to min and max axis values, just complete insanity.  I have learned that if I didn't save the old settings folder that I need to go into the AH clipboard as soon as I start AH for the first time and unassign all of the insane mappings.  Then I make sure all of the axes are set properly and apply some scaling to at least roll and pitch.  After that the planes are mostly flyable.

The other thing with CH gear is that it really likes powered USB hubs.  I have run on a powered hub for almost a decade now and the only time I have had issues is when the computer has gone to sleep.  It does something weird to the USB port, and rebooting is the cure.

Yeah, mine go to powered usb hubs, one each.....what's odd, is that when the stick is MAPPED to aileron, it is actually running the throttle back and forth. I'm pretty sure it's a windows thing....I can take the same usb cables, plug them into my old pc, fire it up, and all is fine

BJ229r did you calibrate your equipment in ch  manager?  If not try that. you can calibrate stick, throttle and pedals separately.   After calibration of the three download the map.

I've had the same CH setup for years, never saw a reason to even have the software on my machine, but the new box wouldn't recognize it....I figgered that CH Manager might have some variety of drivers I was lacking.....had quite some grief just getting CH Manager to see them at first. The more I think about it, coping the AH setting and stick config from the old box might have made it worse

There is something about drivers and the CH Manager software that IS a requirement to use the CH gear. Now what ISN'T required is using the software to map keys etc. I do but lots of others don't. I like it because I can just change profiles with the press of a button ( I use the little mini stick on the throttle--press inwards on it).

There's also a button you might try in CHManager. Go to Calibrate, click "rescan". It'll look for your gear again. Things get messed up if you have any sort of power management turned on in your PC's USB ports too. Definitely turn all that stuff off! Could be your PC "managed" your power for you and turned off the port your hub is plugged into. You may have a powered port but it's plugged into a USB port on your PC and that's gotta be on all the time. If not--- all of a sudden your sticks have gone byebye.

Give those a shot.

it IS odd that your seeing the inputs in AH calibration tho. Usually when there's a problem like above you get a whole lot of nothing. Wouldn't happen to have a backed up copy of your settings folder around would ya? Could try copying your joystick files, think they're .jsm.

Download DIView and see if it sees all raw inputs for all USB controllers connected to your PC. Just run it with out CH manager software running.

Cool, thanks Bustr. I ran it yesterday for a bit, everything seemed to work fine....haven't really changed anything tho. When I'm on the road, I use a twisty stick, wonder if that contributes
