deadstik cv landing eny collide
« on: January 12, 2015, 05:18:45 PM »
Fugitive: here is the film. I'm attempting to land deadstik on the cv. Manieac says watch the La, but I never saw it coming as I was only focused on trying to land a 109 on the CV deck.

I'm sure on his end he was never as close, but it still remains, how am I supposed to avoid that type of collision. It mostly happens in bombers with a ftr swooping in on you...

Fast fwd to the end, the only engagement is me attacking bombers & doing it poorly.

They're casting their bait over there, see?

You turned right into him. You were just under 200 mph at the time of the collision and so still had good enough speed to maneuver. You just turned the wrong way. Had you just nosed down, or pulled up, heck just flown strait at that point you most likely would not have collided.

As the system is "what you see is what you get" when it comes to collisions it's up to you to avoid it. IN this case you did as poorly as the attack on the buffs  :devil  I to have had the occasional fighter and me collide when I was in buffs, I've also blown them up just before we collide, and other times I've rolled out of the way enough to avoid a collision in buffs. It is possible, it just depends on how important it is to you.

In your flight you were concentrating on landing a dead plane on the CV. My guess, even though you weren't even close to landing, that THAT is what was more important to you at that time. Me knowing I wasn't close to dropping wheels yet would have had my SA going like crazy looking for the LA someone had warned me about.

Collisions happen, and sometimes your just not going to be in time to get out of the way, but if you really think about it YOU put yourself in that position too. Plan better next time, shoot better next time, avoid the other guys rounds better the next time and you most likely won't find yourself in that position again. Thats how I look at it anyway. It's more my fault than a games fault..... if a game can have a fault.

My tail end collided with his front end, it's odd unless I was flying backwards...

Ok, I see a lot of your point(s), but I still was spending all my energy focusing on getting turned around to land on the CV. I never looked for the La, even though watching the film he's easy to spot.

I was having to save a lot of kinetic & potential E in order to turn 180degs, re-orient and position to make a deadstik landing.

I only brought it up about the level bombers; this is the first time iirc it happening with a ftr and is why I saved the film.

You are right, a better pilot probably could have kept his SA and landing in sight, I'm not there yet though.
