Weapons Safe/Fire Switch Command Key
« on: January 04, 2015, 04:13:32 PM »
I thought of this idea a while back, when I used to do offline bombing missions in some B-25C's, and the nose guns seemed to grab my attention with the "Safe/Fire" labeled on the face of the gun.

Thought it would be pretty neat to add this thing for kicks. There should be also a light indicator for the switch, on being that the weapons are locked in safe mode. And off, being weapons free mode.

That's just my idea. Some might agree, others may not, but I just thought it could go out there. Let the +1's and -1's commence.

On the fence.

Sounds like a good idea, but I can find myself (and others) forgetting about it on a long escort flight, or something, and when you need you're guns you forgot you put them on safe!
50/50, unsure if it would be a 100% good thing, but some players would definitely forget they left it on.

Why add a useless button press to the game?

Why add a useless button press to the game?

Because if someone were to accidentally waste a burst of ammo somehow or a squad is taking a medium-long range flight, wouldn't they want something to prevent that from occurring?

You might see it as useless, and that's completely your opinion 100%. But there's two sides to everything, both good and bad.

During botenplate, a pony pilot forgot to arm his gun after engaging just after TO, riled the guard off the safty switch to quicken the arming as he had just gotten on a 109.  :aok to the wish

HTC has said they would not add something just for the sake of a button push. I has to have a valid reason. I you can't keep your hand off the trigger on a long run it's a discipline problem.

I could see it getting used in FSO/Scenarios.  Set weapons to safe before spawning to prevent some yahoo from bouncing a tater through 30 planes that just spawned.

You will get this around the time HiTech adds an off\on switch  for the gunsight light bulb. Been asking for that about 5 years now.

You can make an arming switch for yourself by copying mode 1 to another mode like mode 3.

Set a button in mode 1 to switch to mode 3. Set the same button in mode 3 to switch to mode 1.

In mode 3 unmap all your primary and secondary triggers, fire buttons, and keys. Set them to "none".

Now you have an arming switch button.

Agreed, useless waste of time, programming and gameplay.  Now if you could damage friendly players with your weapons then I might be inclined to say yes but then there'd be those tards who intentionally shoot down friendlies just for the sake of pissing them off...remember the old air warrior days?

I'd much prefer a functioning K-14, lead computing gunsight.  However, I don't think it would be viable alternative to what we have now (as far as the K-14 reticle is concerned) as there'd be relatively few (IMO) who would bother to learn how to actually use the equipment.
