Just looking at surplus P-38 prices  in 1945 ... for a low hour fully fueled, ready to fly away P-38.... the sale price was $1250 dollars .  About $16,350 dollars today .  A P-51 in the same condition went for between 3000- and 3500 dollars so roughly $39,000 - $46,000 dollars today .  I couldve bought a P-38 for what I paid for my first car .... payment was like $350 a month    :cry
