Events are remembered more sharply, more vividly and with a much greater sense of accuracy. The issue is, that almost all of the time, the further back the events and the more often we tell our stories, the more inaccurate our stories can become! It can get to the point where only a few anchor points in the story are true, the content and ending of our recollections can have little if anything to do with what happened. And again, we become more emphatic as time goes by.
Apparently men have more of an inclination to do this than women. Figures.

I think that when people find themselves being challenged, if the challenge is credible, they should correct themselves and the record. I call those people mistaken. The ones who refuse, can be called worse, but think about it - do you want to call an 80 year old a liar?
