When staying at the Rio a few years ago the wife and I took the short cab ride to the new Palms because there was a tatoo place inside that was on reality tv show. We both either had the art on us or were able to easily tell them what small differences we needed from the art. They looked at us like bugs because we didn't fit their usual clientele (younger) and told us they refused to do the tats because the art in hand had to be exactly what the final tat would look like. I thought that's what an artist did...take art plus any additional details and getterdone. Not the case for us though.
That sux and is straight up why I cant stand most shops, I have quit working at 14 shops because of very similar reasons...they claim they do "custom" work yet cant draw a straight line without a ruler...
you would have had much different results if I was the one you went and saw....
for instance I had a guy come in one time...he says "I want me as a turtle" I ask...like teenage mutant turtle? he says ya...my nickname is turtle and I have wanted me as a turtle for as long as I can remember....
I took some paper and a pencil and drew him as a turtle....he flipped out and gave me 300$ for the tat.
had another guy come in...ask for a piece of pizza.....
I says hmm...never done one of those....would be an interesting tat...he says...YOU are doing my tattoo I asked why he said that with such conviction...he says at least 8 shops he went to and everytime he asks for the tat the "artists" alwasy give him a hard time saying...well ya but pepperoni will be extra...or some such stupid comment...
just shows 99% of artists do not care about what they do, all they give a crap about is the dollar....and when it comes to tattooing....
tattoos are something that can change someones life....for the better...and definitely for the worse....I like to avoid the last one.
