Wow!  Looks kinda cool actually.  I'm going to have to try and catch this on TV and check it out ASAP.

Is this the type of game you boys play as kids like we play baseball here in the states?

Tried to watch the India-Pakistan game. It was on the TV from 10:00PM to 7:00AM but fell asleep around 5:00AM.

One of the Sport channels here has an hour summary of each match.

I can't speak for the UK or NZ, but in India it is played by kids the way American kids play baseball.

It's played mostly by people who go to private schools in NZ and the UK. In India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, Cricket is more important than Oxygen.

Even more humiliating for the UK is that NZ's population base is less than that of Hampshire, so it's like the UK National team being beaten by a UK counties team.

Bollocks is it.  I went to comprehensive (means State run school) and it was Autumn term: Football.  Spring term: Rugby.  Summer term: Cricket.  With basketball in the sports hall whenever it was windy cos the P.E. Master didn't want anyone to know he wore a wig.

The last one I was working midnights and followed it with an Indian friend. I found myself liking the game quite a bit, "they are quite mad about it over there".

It has evolved into a powerhouse sport with a lot of dough at stake. To think NZ spanked England like this is unprecedented. England and Australia are power houses. Was never a big fan of cricket, despite playing a rather loose version of it as a kid. But that was before the Irish cricket team started to improve. They've beaten the West Indies in their first match and really should beat the UAE in their second.  :pray  So I'm quite enjoying this world cup so far.

Cricket was in decline in Ireland until recently but the influx of emigrants from cricket loving countries like Australia, New Zealand, India and Pakistan to Ireland in recent years has helped make it more popular. The team actually has English, South African and Aussie born players in it.

Ironically the England Captain is from my home town, Dublin, which is absolutely not in England! Another Irishman plays for England too.

I would like England to do better just so we can beat them in the final. Or maybe the Australians.  :rock :cheers:
