Voice transmit ability gone
« on: February 20, 2015, 04:00:16 PM »
Hello Gentlemen,

I've recently joined Aces High and been having a lot of fun but I've now run into a technical problem that maybe someone can help me with: As the topic says, I've lost the ability to transmit voice comms. I've joined about 3 days ago and it was working perfectly fine for about the first day, but then 2 days ago it just suddenly stopped working mid-session without me changing anything. I can still hear ppl talkin but can not transmit myself (they won't hear me).

It is not my headset since that is still working in other applications like e.g. Teamspeak. I've also already tried the .resetv or similar dot command and that didn't help either. I suspect it might have something to do with my connection (packet loss), since at one point it also said it's changing the protocol from UDP to TCP or vise-versa, don't remember - and I also think that was actually some time after voice comms stopped working, but it might have something to do with it.
Checking the net status it shows a flat line, albeit I once saw a bigger spike at one point. I'm having a 240 kb/sec d/l rate DSL connection - sometimes it is acting up too when for example I load the server list in ArmA3, it seems to get kind of overflooded there and disconnects, so it might be a similiar problem here - but then again, it worked perfectly the first day with plenty ppl on voice comms and I have an otherwise stable connection to Aces High. Could it also have something to do with the game d/ling the high res tex pack in the background? That thing was also somewhat strange, because I kept recieving that message the first day, and it kept saying "finished in 8.1 hours", but I got frequent disconnect messages concerning that download and now I'm not getting any message as to its status anymore at all.

If any of you have any idea what might be the issue, I'd much appreciate it.

Thank you very much
heartc

1)  Make sure the recording device in Options->Game Sounds for your microphone did not get changed.  There are audio applications which will change those for you and not tell you.

2)  If you are running any type of anti-xxx software, disable it and try the voice comms.  Sometimes voice data can look like a virus to some applications.

3)  Power cycle the router.  Voice comms use the UDP protocol.  This is a fast protocol, but if an error occurs, then the packet is lost.  There are times when consumer routers get confused and lost in this area.  A simple power cycle might do the trick.

OK, thanks Skuzzy, but disregard lol - much ado about nothing! I tried rebooting my router right now (though I already tried that yesterday without effect) and now it is working again! Seems my ISP really wants me to take out a new plan or something - had no troubles with it for years but since a while it is acting up. Oh well.

Thanks again for your help!

Kind regards

Heartc, sir  :salute welcome to the game my friend.  I hope you find it as enjoyable and frustrating as I have over the years.  I'm really glad you are here.  Is your in-game name "heartc" ?  Which country do you normally fly with?

If you are struggling with anything PM me anytime in game and I will help you with what I can.

I would also strongly suggest you join a squad ASAP if you have not already.  As you have discovered this game has a lot to learn and squad mates can teach you constantly as you fly with them.  Many of the squads participate in the FSO's held on Friday nights where we recreate historical air battles.  Many of us think that Fridays are the best any game has to offer when it's the FSO.

Again, if you need help just PM me in game, I fly as "Zoney" on Knights.
Wag more, bark less.

Thanks for your kind words Zoney. Yeah, my in-game nick is heartc too and I'm flying with the Rooks for now. I might look into the squad business at some point, but for now I appreciate my independence and want to still figure things out ;) . I'm an AH noob but not a noob to online flying as a whole, was flying in Warbirds for quite a while some years back, though many things are different in AH and so far I like what I see :) .

Thanks again and if we meet I will try not to be a too easy target ;)

What a great thread this is - a new guy posts with a tech support probem, gets a solution, and gets a nice welcome to the community from another player.

<S> Heartc, Skuzzy, and Zoney.

Welcome to AH, Heartc!

Well said Oboe.

I would add to that heartc being fairly new to AH (3 years now). AH has a great community and it is a great game. Good luck and above all have fun.

Speaking of sound, check out the Custom Sounds forum for Plane and Vehicle sounds.
